tropylium asked: Is there any particular reason behind your choice of zone letters? I'm counting Α Γ Δ Ε Κ Σ so far.
Not really, apart from missing out those that sound a bit crap! ‘Zeta Zone’ and ‘Iota Zone’ for example wouldn’t work I don’t think.
I think I used Greek letters because it implies meaning, implies that ‘Gamma Zone’ is about something happening in a place, rather than it just being track three or whatever. And you have all these associations already, like gamma radiation and so on.
There is a very vague story behind ‘Unknown Zones’ but I’d rather people made up their own from whatever they personally take from the titles and the artwork and anything else. I like the way that arbitrary titles gain meaning over time. ‘Crisis In Gamma Zone’ is called that because it started out as an extended live version of ‘Gamma Zone’ that made me think of the Mike Oldfield track ‘Crises’ (mainly because of it’s length), but by sticking it at the end of the album and musically referencing a couple of earlier tracks it does give a feeling of some kind of dramatic climax.
Exactly what that is is up to you though!
